Why does The Olio think The Arts are important?
Numerous studies have proven that the arts are of priceless value to societies all over the world, creating a unified language that crosses borders unlike any other subject.  One of the oldest forms of self-expression, it is undeniable that the arts are paramount to our happiness and longevity. The arts are also a strong economic force in our community, and worldwide.

Why do we teach entrepreneurial and business skills?
It can be challenging to make a living as an artist, and we want to help change that. Some basic skills in bookkeeping, sales, marketing and cost analysis can go a long way to keep an artist from starving. Even if our participants do not choose to go into the arts as a career, they learn valuable life and professional skills in a unique and hands-on environment.

Why is The Olio teaching kids glassblowing?
Glassblowing is an exciting art form to watch and learn. It requires a great amount of communication, teamwork, dedication and endurance to blow glass, and it requires much practice and commitment. Chemistry, physics and math are areas that can be challenging to many, but through glassblowing can be applied and learned in nontraditional ways.

What else besides glassblowing is taught at The Olio?
We offer glass fusing workshops in the summer months when our furnace is off, between June and September.
